Designing with Microcontrollers -- The 68HCS12 has been available to the public since July 2004, and is now at revision 7a. The package provides the text, documentation, and software necessary to learn about microcontrollers, and specifically programming the 68HCS12 CPU and peripherals.

Installation

The textbook is readable on the CD without any installation. However there is an installer for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10 that will install all of the contents on the hard drive and add the programs to the Start menu.

Use on other platforms

The textbook (both HTML and PDF format) can be easily copied to any computer that can access the CD and be read using any browser and/or PDF reader. The Simulator, written in Java, has been tested under Sun Solaris, Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.11 (El Capitan), and several Linux distributions from Red Hat, Mandriva, and Ubuntu. The source code for the assember is in C, but compiled copies for Linux and Mac OS X (both PowerPC and Intel) are supplied. The only part of the package which is Windows PC only are the IDEs.
